Hasan, Imam propel Peshawar to five-wicket win over Multan

Hasan Ali (4 for 17) and Imam-ul-Haq (52 off 44) propelled Peshawar Zalmi to five-wicket win over Multan Sultans in the 14th match of the Pakistan Super League.

With 146 required to win for Zalmi, things got tight towards the end before Pollard struck a quick fire 25 off 10 balls to ease things down for his side.

Bowling first, Hasan was the pick of the bowlers once again as his 4-17 helped dismiss the Sultans for 145. He removed James Vince with a sharp nip-backer to put Multan under pressure right from the start.

He then sparked a batting collapse by getting captain Shoaib Malik out caught behind off the first ball of the 19th over. Any hopes for a big total were thrown out of the window by Hasan as he removed Shahid Afridi and Hammad Azam to finish with four wickets.

In reply, Peshawar didn’t lose as much wickets but the scoring rate barely got above six an over for most part.

Opener Imam-ul-Haq anchored the innings with a 44-ball 52 while Dawid Malan scored 38 off 35 balls.

The equation came down to 41 from the last five overs and Multan continued to apply the pressure. However, in a controversial moment, Junaid Khan had Imam out leg-before even though upon review, Junaid appeared to have overstepped the line. However, third umpire deemed the delivery legal and the leg-before decision was upheld.

As the chase got closer with Zalmi requiring 31 from the last three overs, Pollard Mohammad Irfan for four consecutive sixes to end Multan’s hopes to win the game.
