All-round Iftikhar guides Karachi to much-needed win

Ball-by-ball clips & scorecard: Karachi Kings vs Lahore Qalandars, Match 20, Dubai

An all-round performance from Iftikhar Ahmed (33* off 25) saw Karachi Kings to a much-needed five-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League 2019.

With 134 to win, Karachi weren’t off to a great start when they lost the dangerous Colin Munro, caught superbly at mid-off by Haris Sohail. The batting side had to deal with blow when Sandeep Lamichanne’s googly wasn’t picked up by Babar Azam and had to ultimately see the woodwork disturbed behind him.

But the duo of Livingstone (38 off 34) and Ingram got things going for their side with a 50-run partnership to set a much-needed platform. Livingstone was particularly harsh on Yasir Shah, accumulating eighteen runs off Yasir’s over to ease the pressure.

But soon after Haris Rauf was introduced, he immediately got rid of the dangerous Colin Ingram, yorking the batsman who was found guilty of playing across the line of the ball. In the next over, Yasir removed Livingstone and the game was evenly poised at that stage.

With 47 required off the last five overs, Iftikhar Ahmed struck a massive six off Aizaz Cheema to release some of the pressure mounted by quick wickets. In the very next over, Rizwan pulled a short-of-a-length delivery straight into the hands of mid-wicket to give the opposition an advantage.

But in the 18th over, Aizaz Cheema leaked 17 runs to turn the match into Karachi’s favor who then chased down the total with five balls to spare.

Earlier, Lahore Qalandars weren’t able to get the required lift they wanted to. Their top three was not allowed to fire by some good consistent bowling from Karachi Kings.

Even the destructive AB de Villiers managed to get 32-ball 33 and was ultimately caught at short third man off Amir’s bowling.

Iftikhar Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers with his two wickets in a total of two overs while Amir, Imad and Umer Khan got one wicket each to restrict Lahore to just 133.
