An all-round show from defending champions Chennai Super Kings thumped the Delhi Capitals at their home at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi by six wickets in the 5th match of the season.
The victory was set-up on the back of brilliant showing from the bowlers, who helped restrict a cruising Delhi batting to a meagre score of 147 for six despite the top-order laying solid platform.
Prithvi Shaw (24 off 16) smashed five boundaries in his short stay while Shikhar Dhawan (51 off 47) scored a brisk fifty, adding 43 and 41-run partnerships with skipper Shreyas Iyer (18 off 20) and Rishabh Pant (25 off 13).
Delhi looked set for a score in the range of 170 before Dwayne Bravo (3-33) picked up Pant and Colin Ingram (2 off 2) in the 16th over to put brakes on Delhi's charge towards the business end. Keemu Paul fell for a duck in the next over off Ravindra Jadeja while Dhawan fell off the first ball of the 18th, becoming the third scalp of Bravo. Delhi went from 120-2 to 127-6 in a span of 12 deliveries. Axar Patel (9* off 9) and Rahul Tewatia (11* off 9) helped Delhi to 147 for six in the end.
In reply, Shane Watson (44 off 26, which earned him the man of the match award) and Suresh Raina (30 off 16) added 52 for the second wicket after Ambati Rayudu (5) was removed early by Ishant Sharma. When Raina fell, Chennai were comfortably placed with just 50 required off 58 balls. Kedar Jadav (27 off 34) and MS Dhoni (32 off 35) took their side home without much trouble.
Jadav fell on the first ball off the last over off Kagiso Rabada and the next two dot balls made things intense before Dwayne Bravo smashed a boundary between square and long leg to seal the game.
