Robin Uthappa, Nitish Rana and an all-round performance from Andre Russell guided Kolkata Knight Riders to a 28-run win over Kings XI Punjab in the sixth match of the Indian Premier League 2019.
After being sent in to bat first by the Kings XI, KKR had a nervous start to their innings when they lost Chris Lynn early. He was soon followed by Sunil Narine, who smashed 24 runs off Varun Chakravarthy’s opening over.
But Robin Uthappa (67 off 50 balls) and Nitish Rana (63 off 34 balls) constructed a 110-run partnership to accelerate things for their side.
Uthappa struck six fours and two maximums in his unbeaten knock whereas Rana struck two fours and seven maximums during his stay at the crease.
Andre Russell then provided the perfect finish to the innings with his whirlwind 48 off 17 balls.
Russell took Andrew Tye and Mohammad Shami to the cleaners in particular, to propel the final total to 218.
In reply, Kings XI Punjab lost the likes of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle, who went without troubling the scorers much.
Sarfaraz Khan followed the opening batsmen soon and Kings XI were reduced to 60/3 in 7.3 overs.
Mayank Agarwal (58 off 34) and David Miller (59 off 40) then settled the ship but the asking rate kept on going up.
Agarwal was cleaned up by Chawla and at one stage, Kings XI required 57 off 12 balls.
Kings XI mustered 190 from the 20 overs, giving KKR a 28-run win to propel them to top of the tables so far.
Andre Russell was declared man of the match for his all-round performance.
