KL Rahul and Mayank Agrawal added 114 for the second-wicket partnership to power Kings XI Punjab to a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 22nd match of IPL 2019 in Mohali.
Chasing a total of 151, Rahul smacked an unbeaten 71 off 53 balls while Agarwal stroked 55 off 33 balls. The duo came together after the early dismissal of Chris Gayle (16 off 14), caught at long-on off the bowling of Rashid Khan (1-20). Rahul smashed seven boundaries and a six while Agarwal scored three boundaries and sixes each. When Agarwal departed on the first ball of the 18th over off Sandeep Sharma (2-21), Punjab needed 19 off 17 balls. But quick dismissals of David Miller (1 off 3) and Mandeep Singh (2 off 3) off Sandeep and Siddarth Kaul (1-42) changed the momentum to an extent, leaving 11 off the last over.
With Mohammad Nabi (0-42) left to bowl the last over, Sam Curran accumulated five runs off the first three balls to leave the equation to 6 off 3 before Rahul smashed a boundary to bring the equation to 2 off 2. He then stroked a double to take his side over the line, hence ensuring an unbeaten streak at home this season.
Earlier, Sunrisers' total of 150 was powered by David Warner's unbeaten 70 off 62 balls. After the early dismissal of in-form Jonny Bairstow (1 off 7), caught at mid-wicket off Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Warner added 49 runs for the second wicket with Vijay Shankar (26 off 27). The scoring rate remained below six for the most part of the innings. Mohammad Nabi, promoted up the order, failed to provide the acceleration after he fell after scoring just 12 off 7. Manish Pandey's 19 off 15 and Deepak Hooda 14 off 3 along with acceleration from Warner in the later stages helped Hyderabad reach 150.
KL Rahul was adjudged the player of the match for his match-winning knock.
