Shikhar Dhawan hit an unbeaten 97 off 63 balls to help Delhi Capitals chase down their target of 179 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in the 26th match of the 2019 Indian Premier League.
Dhawan added 105 runs for the third-wicket partnership with Rishabh Pant, who scored 46 off 31 balls, to revive the chase after Prithvi Shaw (14 off 7) and Shreyas Iyer (6 off 6) fell cheaply.
Pant fell on the first ball of the 18th over with Delhi needing just 17 off 17 balls. Colin Ingram (14 off 6) then joined Dhawan and the duo took their side home; Ingram sealing the game with a six off Piyush Chawla (0-35).
At the start of the 19th over, Delhi required 12 off the remaining two overs with Dhawan on 95. who scored a single off the first ball before Ingram smashed a boundary and then took a single. With six runs left and four for his personal milestone, Dhawan again could only manage a single before Ingram sealed the game on the next ball.
Prasidh Krishna, Andre Russell and Nitish Rana shared a wicket each for KKR.
Earlier, Shubman Gill (65 off 39) and Russell (45 off 21) helped Kolkata post 178-6.
Joe Denly, playing his first game of the season, fell for a golden duck to Ishant Sharma on the first ball of the match.
Gill and Robin Uthappa (28 off 30) then added 63 for the second wicket to build the innings. But it was again left to in-form Russell to guide Kolkata to a big total, who smashed three fours and four sixes in his 21 ball knock.
Chris Morris and Keemu Paul shared two wickets each for the Capitals.
Delhi have broken into the top four with this win as they leapfrogged Kings XI Punjab to the fourth spot courtesy a better run rate, with both teams having four wins in seven games.
