Root, Morgan steer England to comfortable 7-wicket win

England skipper Eoin Morgan struck an unbeaten 57 to lead his side to a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in the only T20I in Cardiff on Sunday.

Joe Root smacked 47 while James Vince made 36 as England chased down their target of 174 with four balls to spare.

Jofra Archer also continued his push for a World Cup call-up by taking two for 29 as Pakistan posted 173 for six.

Ben Duckett fell early in England's chase, driving Shaheen Afridi to mid-off, but Vince and Root kept England up with a 45-run second-wicket stand.

Vince was caught down the legside by Sarfraz Ahmed off Imad Wasim but Morgan kept up with the required run rate.

There was a bizarre incident at the start of Pakistan's third over when the ground made way beneath David Willey as the England seamer was just about to make his delivery stride. Fortunately, Willey, who is a part of England's World Cup squad, avoided any serious injury.

Babar Azam (65) and Haris Sohail (50) shared a 103-run third-wicket stand after chose to bat first at Sophia Gardens' green-tinged pitch.

Pakistan then saw both their well-set batsmen fall in quick succession with Archer removing Haris before he ran out Babar.

England and Pakistan will now play a five-match ODI series starting at The Oval on Wednesday.
