Mohammad Amir’s World Cup chances have gone bleak after the reports in Espncricinfo suggest that he might be suffering from chickenpox.
That leaves a monumental task for him to break into Pakistan’s final World Cup squad as the England series was an opportunity for him to press his case for selection.
He was a part of the playing XI for the first ODI at The Oval but the match was washed out after 19 overs in which Pakistan batted first. He fell ill on Friday, ahead of the second ODI at The Ageas Bowl on Saturday.
The 27-year-old hasn’t been at his best since Pakistan’s Champions Trophy triumph in 2017, with just four wickets in 14 matches to his name.
