Mark Wood has been declared fit for England's World Cup opener against South Africa, a team spokesman announced on Monday.

The right-arm quick suffered a foot injury and left the field early while running in to bowl during Saturday's warm-up loss against Australia in Southampton.

Wood has had plenty of repeated ankle problems but hospital scans saw the 29-year-old given the all clear for England’s opening match against South Africa on Thursday.

Wood was also scheduled to bowl during the warm-up against Afghanistan but will not play any part in the fixture itself.

Wood has been one of England's quickest bowlers recently.
