Mohammad Shahzad ruled out of World Cup with knee injury

Afghanistan opener Mohammad Shahzad is set to miss the rest of the World Cup after suffering a knee injury.

The wicketkeeper-batsman will be replaced by Ikram Ali Khil in a blow to Afghanistan, who have lost their opening two matches against Sri Lanka and Australia.

"The ICC has approved Ikram Ali Khil as a replacement player for Mohammad Shahzad in the Afghanistan squad for the remainder of the tournament," an ICC statement said.

"Wicketkeeper Shahzad has suffered a knee injury which has ruled him out of further participation in the event."

Shahzad had suffered a knee injury in Afghanistan's World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan and had to leave the field.

While he participated in Afghanistan’s opening fixtures against Australia and Sri Lanka, the injury is understood to be aggravated which will keep him out for rest of the tournament.
