Will India remove Kohli's preferred Ravi Shastri?

India's on the lookout for a new coach and applications have been pouring in from some big names including Tom Moody. However, Virat Kohli has backed the incumbent Ravi Shastri for the role.

Shastri was under the pump after an unexpected defeat against New Zealand in the World Cup semifinal and the pressure was mounting on him to relinquish the position.

Kohli has put his weight behind Shastri before leaving for the West Indies, saying the team has a "great camaraderie" with the former India all-rounder and will be "happy" if he continues.

Reports are that Sri Lanka's batting great Mahela Jayawardene, former Indian player Robin Singh, Zimbabwe coach Lalachand Rajput, and ex-New Zealand coach Mike Hesson are all eying the lucrative post.

Jonty Rhodes has shown interest in the fielding coach vacancy and former Indian Test match player Pravin Amre has applied for the batting coach job.

Shastri's contract finished with the World Cup 2019 but he along with his support staff have been given a 45-day extension for the ongoing West Indies tour.

The matter will be handled by the national board's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, former head coach Anshuman Gaekwad and women's team captain Shantha Rangaswamy.

The 57-year-old Shastri will be in the West Indies and he will speak with the advisory committee by video call for the interview.
