Saqlain Mushtaq, the doosra expert who used to spin webs around the best batsmen in the world, has demonstrated a keen interest in coaching the aspiring young cricketers of Pakistan's Under-19 team.
He is gearing up for the head coach slot interview scheduled on Monday with the officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Saqlain picked 496 wickets in 49 Tests and 169 ODIs in his illustrious career.
He is the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) level-3 coach and has an impressive coaching portfolio.
He worked with New Zealand, Australia, West Indies, Bangladesh and is currently working as the spin consultant for England in the ongoing Ashes series. He was also part of England's support staff in the ICC World Cup 2019.
The spin wizard who used to bamboozle batting stalwarts with his guile, variation, and cunning drifting methods said: “I have acquired a lot of coaching experience working around the world. I have worked a lot with young players at Somerset and Middlesex counties and with different academies all over the world."
If hired, Saqlain could prove as a valuable asset to PCB and help teach vital skills to the exuberant youth early in their careers.
He will help the Under-19 team achieve their dreams of World Cup glory. There will be lots to learn for the teenagers and especially for spinners as they could benefit from his vast coaching experience.
He could assist Pakistan in unearthing new stars as there is a dearth of quality spinners in the country's domestic circuit.
