BCCI accept Karthik's apology for CPL match attendance

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has accepted Dinesh Karthik's apology for watching a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match from the Trinbago Knight Riders' dressing room.

"The BCCI has accepted Dinesh Karthik's apology and the matter is now a closed chapter," a board official said.

The wicketkeeper-batsman apparently violated a clause in his central contract when he was seen wearing a Knight Riders jersey during the CPL clash between Trinbago and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Karthik, who has played 26 Tests, 94 ODIs and 32 T20Is for the national side, was issued a show-cause notice by the board asking him to respond why his central contract should not be terminated.

The central contract dictates players must seek permission from the board in matters related to any private league.

Thereafter, Karthik replied that he had gone to attend the game at Queen’s Park Oval on the insistence of the newly appointed head coach Brendon McCullum and tendered an unconditional apology.

The Trinidad and Tobago-based franchise is co-owned by Shah Rukh Khan, who is also the joint-owner of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders captained by Karthik.
