St Lucia Zouks have jumped from last place to the fourth spot in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) points table after St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' Mohammad Hafeez's heroics with both bat and ball threatened to consign them to their fifth loss of the season.
Zouks eventually won the CPL fixture at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet by 20 runs and strengthened their chances of securing a berth in the playoffs.
The Patriots suffered early setbacks in their pursuit of the challenging target of 166 with openers Evin Lewis and Devon Thomas dismissed within the Powerplay.
A steady 49-run partnership between Laurie Evans and Hafeez then brought reasonable calm to the Patriots chase before they were rocked by a middle-order collapse.
The Pakistani all-rounder could do little to stymie his side's slide into disarray as he watched his batting partners falter on the other end.
Hafeez's patient knock for 29, featuring one maximum, ended when he parried the ball back to leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed with the visitors reeling at 103-7.
A couple of sixes from Rayad Emrit briefly reignited hopes of victory for St Kitts and Nevis but they could muster just 145-9 in reply to the home side's 165-6.
Earlier, Hafeez starred with the ball when he applied the brakes on Zouks' rollicking start to the innings.
He returned impressive figures of 3-22 in four overs but St Lucia skipper Darren Sammy's belligerent 19-ball 36 towards the end lifted his side's total.
