Virat Kohli’s stunning 254* against South Africa in second Test has propelled him closer to top-ranked Steve Smith in ICC Test rankings.
After the first Test at Visakhapatnam, Kohli had gone below the 900-point mark for the first time since January 2018.
But following his Pune heroics, he has 936 points while Smith is placed at No. 1 with 937. The Indian skipper will have the opportunity to replace Smith at the top with one Test remaining in Ranchi.
On the other hand, Ravichandran Ashwin moved up three places, from tenth to seventh for his six wickets in India’s thumping win over South Africa at Pune.
Indian opener Mayank Agarwal also improved his place in the rankings with a double ton in the first Test at Visakhapatnam and a century in Pune. He is now placed at 17th spot.
Umesh Yadav has also leaped six places and is ranked No. 25.
