Shehzad ton overpowers Asif's cameo as Central Punjab edge Northern

Ahmed Shehzad's blistering century helped Central Punjab chase down the mammoth 223-run target on the penultimate delivery of the match against Northern.

Shehzad remained unbeaten at 111 off 63 balls, smashing three maximums and 13 boundaries to lift his side to their first win of the tournament.

Earlier, Northern were bolstered by a terrific 35-ball 93 from Asif Ali, who took the aerial route on a number of occasions.

Asif's blazing knock was embellished by 10 sixes as he played an instrumental role alongside Mohammad Nawaz (50) to propel his team to 222-6 in the allotted 20 overs.

The two rescued Northern from a rocky start to the innings, putting on 107 runs for the fourth wicket in nine overs.

In reply, Central Punjab were rattled by early strikes losing the wickets of Babar Azam and Kamran Akmal, who was dismissed by Imad Wasim right after hitting the first ball he faced for a six.

Despite the frequent loss of partners on the other end, Shehzad kept the scoreboard ticking along by piercing the gaps in the field with great precision.

He reached the fifth century of his T20 career with a powerful flick towards the square leg fetching him a timely boundary off the bowling of Haris Rauf.

Shehzad opted for muted celebrations given the context of the match and batted on to achieve a four-wicket win for Central Punjab.

Zafar Gohar struck the winning runs off Sohail Tanvir after scores had been levelled on the third ball of the final over.
