West Indies name Hayden Walsh Jr in white-ball squad, drop Darren Bravo from Test lineup

Caribbean Premier League (CPL) stars Brandon King and Hayden Walsh Jr. have received maiden international call-ups to the West Indies ODI and T20 squads for the series against Afghanistan next month.

King and Walsh Jr. had an impressive tournament as they topped the run-scorers and wicket-takers list respectively.

Leg-spinner Walsh Jr. has previously represented the USA in one ODI and eight T20Is and played a pivotal role in Barbados Tridents' CPL title-winning campaign, grabbing 22 wickets in 9 games.

King opened the innings for Guyana Amazon Warriors and accumulated a mammoth sum of 496 runs this season at an average of 55.11.

Meanwhile, Khary Pierre and Kesrick Williams have also returned to the T20I squad following outstanding performances in the CPL.

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin has been recalled to the T20I squad despite an ordinary stint with Trinbago Knight Riders in the T20 competition where he scored 190 runs at a strike rate just over 100.

Lendl Simmons, member of the World T20-winning side in 2016, will be reunited with uncle and new head coach Phil Simmons as he has also been named in the 16-member T20I squad.

Incumbent Test skipper and former ODI captain Jason Holder has found a spot in all three squads while Carlos Brathwaite has failed to make the cut for the national side.

Kieron Pollard, the newly appointed white-ball captain for West Indies, has made a comeback to the ODI set-up after a gap of three years.

Right-arm paceman Romario Shepherd, one of the finds of this year's CPL, has been picked in the ODI lineup.

The Test squad announced for the one-off match scheduled on November 27 features almost the same outlook as the one that played against India barring the absence of Darren Bravo and Shannon Gabriel.

Bravo has been replaced with Sunil Ambris while Alzarri Joseph returns to the Test side for the spot vacated by an injured Gabriel.

Bravo was left out owing to his poor run in the Test series loss to India at home.

West Indies' red-ball clash against Afghanistan will not be part of the World Test Championship where they are winless after two games.

The limited-overs series will kick off with three T20Is on November 5, 7 and 9 in Dehradun in India while the three ODIs will be held between November 13 and 18.
