Cooper's on-slaught gives Knight Riders the title

It was the Knight Riders' second CPL title in three years, and the first since they changed their name from Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel.

In a low-scoring thriller, the Trinbago Knight Riders prevailed over St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in a tense chase to take the 2017 edition of Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Patriots were in charge with their opponents at 90 for 7 and Knight Riders still needed 28 off 13 balls when Kevon Cooper ambushed Sheldon Cottrell and Ben Hilfenhaus in a dramatic seven-ball sequence to clinch victory with an over to spare.

Put in to bat first, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots could only manage 135/6, courtesy some decent contributions from middle and lower-middle order. Carlos Brathwaite top-scored with 30* while Javon Searles and Kevon Cooper shared two wickets each for the Knight Riders.

In reply, the Knight Riders were reduced to 90 for seven before Kevon Cooper had the ‘remember the name’ moment, smashing Sheldon Cottrell and Ben Hilfenhaus to win in for the home side.

Kevon Cooper was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
