Ahmed Shehzad was instrumental in giving Pakistan the edge over World XI side in the decisive series of the Independence Cup. Shehzad capitalized on anything aimed on his pads and width outside off stump. Pakistan struggled a bit during the middle overs but some of his blows to Morne Morkel and Ben Cutting in particular – where he smashed three consecutive sixes to the Aussie, kept things moving along for Pakistan. The home side managed to get to 183 which proved too much for World XI today.
Hassan Ali missed out on the second match due to an injury but made a strong comeback in the much-anticipated contest. He made an impact straightaway when he was brought-in to bowl the fifth over the game. Ben Cutting dispatched him through mid-wicket region on his first delivery, but on the next ball, he aimed to hit across-the-line of the ball but ended up chopping the nut onto the stumps.
On the very next ball, there was a horrible mix-up between Faf du Plessis and in-form Hashim Amla. Hassan was quick to seize onto the moment and was involved in running out Amla – bolstering Pakistan’s chances to clinch the series.
Ali was also instrumental in sending Miller back to the pavilion when the South African attempted a big heave towards deep mid-wicket but only managed to get toe-end of his blade – hitting the ball straight to the fielder stationed there.
