Javeria Khan, bowlers steer Pakistan to series sweep against Bangladesh

A fine half-century from Javeria Khan and an all-round display from the bowlers ensured Pakistan marched to their third successive win of the three-match women's T20I series against Bangladesh.

After deciding to bat first on a difficult pitch, the hosts were quickly in trouble with the loss of opener Ayesha Zafar and skipper Bismah Maroof for cheap scores.

Veteran Javeria then put on a steady 66-run stand with Omaima Sohail to revive the side and guide Pakistan towards a defendable total.

The right-handed batter hit seven fours during her immaculate 48-ball 54, striking her second half-century on the trot.

The 31-year-old was dismissed during the death overs of the innings, halting Pakistan's charge with the bat as they could manage only 117 for seven.

Medium-pacer Jahanara Alam was the most successful Bangladesh bowler, snaffling three wickets for just 12 runs in her four overs.

The visitors got off to a nightmare start to their chase as Anam Amin picked up two wickets in the second over while Rumana Ahmed was once again run out to leave the side reeling at 12-4 in seven overs.

Nigar Sultana Joty offered some resistance with a 53-run partnership with Fargana Hoque but the slow pace at which they scored increased the pressure on the remaining batters.

With Bangladesh needing in excess of ten runs an over in the last five overs, three wickets fell in the space of six deliveries to dent their chances of earning a consolatory win.

They eventually finished at a paltry total of 89-8 in 20 overs, handing Pakistan a 3-0 series victory at home.

Javeria was awarded the player of the match prize for her match-winning knock while Jahanara and Bismah grabbed the players of the series honours.

Pakistan will now take on Bangladesh in two ODI encounters in Lahore on November 2 and 4.
