Darren Gough has been appointed England’s fast bowling consultant for their Test series against New Zealand, England and Wales cricket board announced.
He will join the England for their two-week warm-up period before the first Test starts on November 21.
Gough, a former Yorkshire team-mate of now head coach Chris Silverwood, joins the consultancy role on a short term period as Silverwood was appointed England’s head coach.
"I'm delighted to have Darren on board," Silverwood said. "I have known him a long time, and his vast knowledge and experience at the international level will drive our bowling unit forward, leading into the two-match Test series. He will be excellent around the group and will settle in quickly."
Gough, who represented England in 58 Tests, has been invited to attend England training sessions previously. While he is mostly involved in punditry role these days, he is a qualified level 3 coach as well.
“It is a tremendous honour to be asked by Chris Silverwood and Ashley Giles to be involved in this elite environment,” said Gough.
“I very much look forward to working with all the bowlers and helping them improve.
“I will gain a lot from the experience, and to work at this level will benefit me as a coach for the long term. I can’t wait to get cracking.”
