Trent Boult is likely to miss the second Test against England after a pain in the right side of his ribs.
Boult bowled only one over on the final day before he left the field with a pain in his ribs.
"He'll not return to the field on day five," a New Zealand team spokesman said after Boult suffered a pain.
The left-arm fast bowler, who has been a mainstay of New Zealand’s pace battery, has limited time to recover as the second Test starts on Friday.
England were hammered by New Zealand in the first Test by a massive margin of an innings and 65 runs.
Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry are the other pacemen in the New Zealand line-up.
