Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against West Indies with a groin injury. Shardul Thakur has been called up as his replacement.
Kumar picked up an injury during the final T20I against West Indies in Mumbai, which was won by the hosts to seal the three-match series 2-1.
According to a press release by the BCCI: “He [Kumar] underwent an ultrasound scan conducted by a specialist and the BCCI medical team found that his sportsman’s hernia symptoms have resurfaced. A specialist opinion will now be sought, and his management plan will be decided accordingly.”
Kumar’s career has been plagued by injuries of late. He had to sit out during the round robin stage of the recent World Cup and battled out 2018 with a lower back problem.
This is the second time now India have to deal with an injury, with Shikhar Dhawan also missing out the T20I and ODI series battling a deep cut on his knee.
The first game of the three match ODI series will be played on December 15.
