Navdeep Saini has been called up as a replacement for Deepak Chahar for the final ODI of the three-match series against the West Indies.
"Deepak felt mild pain in his lower back following the second ODI played in Vizag on Wednesday," the BCCI declared in a media release.
"The BCCI medical team examined him and has suggested that the fast bowler needs some rest in order to fully recover," the statement read.
Meanwhile, Saini is yet to feature in a 50-over match for India having registered five appearances in the shortest format.
The 27-year-old impressed with his steep pace during his first assignment in national colours in the Caribbean.
He was subsequently left out of the side for the series against Bangladesh owing to a groin injury.
India are likely to hand Saini his maiden ODI cap on Sunday if they do not radically alter the team combination.
