Jofra Archer is doubtful for the second Test at Cape Town after he was unable to bowl in the nets due to a sore right elbow.
Archer, who was one of the players to get ill before the start of the first Test, returned with figures of 5 for 102 at Centurion.
He batted in the nets and took part in the fielding drills as England continue to ponder over their bowling combination for the second Test.
The injury came back when all England players, including Dom Bess and Craig Overton trained after the camp was struck by illness right from the start of the tour.
England, who have been going for an all-pace attack in the last two Tests (against New Zealand at Hamilton and South Africa at Centurion), are likely to include a specialist spinner out of Jack Leach, Dominic Bess or Matt Parkinson.
