Rory Burns is set to miss the tour of Sri Lanka in March after undergoing surgery on the ruptured ligaments in his left ankle, it was announced by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
The Surrey batsman will miss out the action for up to four months as he picked up an ankle injury while playing football in the training session ahead of second Test.
Since this incident, England have decided to abandon football games as a part of players’ warm-ups.
Burns will miss the tour of Sri Lanka and is likely to return to the action at the start of County Championship in April.
The ECB press release said: “Surgery took place in London on Monday afternoon. The Surrey captain is expected to be out of action for up to four months.
“He will miss England’s Test tour of Sri Lanka in March and is aiming to return to play with Surrey in the County Championship at the beginning of the 2020 season in April.”
