Mushfiqur Rahim has made himself unavailable for the forthcoming series in Pakistan, a team official confirmed on Thursday.
The senior wicketkeeper-batsman will not be accompanying the Bangladesh side scheduled to play three T20Is, two Tests and a one-off ODI in Pakistan in three phases.
"Mushfiqur rang me today to inform that he will not go to Pakistan. We are now waiting for his formal letter. Once he does that, we will leave him out of the series," Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin told AFP.
Mushfiqur's absence is a huge blow to Bangladesh's prospects of triumphing in Pakistan as they desperately seek to recoup their confidence after a disastrous India tour.
The 'Tigers' are already bereft of the services of the suspended Shakib Al Hasan, who copped a ban from the ICC for failing to report corrupt approaches.
Mushfiqur, who is currently leading Khulna Tigers in the Bangladesh Premier League, is his country's most capped player across formats and is a vital cog in the team's middle-order.
He most recently conjured an unbeaten half-century to seal Bangladesh's maiden T20I win over India in Delhi.
No reason has yet been made public regarding Mushfiqur's refusal to travel to Pakistan for the all-formats tour.
The proposed series between the two teams was finalised following weeks of a deadlock over the itinerary with Bangladesh adamant at keeping their trip confined to T20Is.
They eventually gave a green signal to a full-fledged tour that will be held in three stages from January to April.
The Bangladesh squad for the short-form games will be announced in a day or two according to Minhajul.
