South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is set to miss the final Test against England at Johannesburg after his celebration following Root’s dismissal led to one demerit point, which eventually caused his suspension.
Rabada was found guilty of breaching level one of the ICC’s code of conduct after getting Root’s wicket. He was also fined 15 percent of his match fee.
Since it was his fourth demerit point within a 24-month period, he was handed a one match suspension.
Rabada had rattled Root’s stumps and then charged down the pitch, before screaming in celebration within touching distance of the England captain.
Rabada was found to have breached article 2.5 of the ICC code of conduct for "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match".
Interestingly, all three of the Rabada’s incidents happened at the similar venue. He had used provocative language in 2018 when he gave Shikhar Dhawan a send-off. The other two incidents came against Australia in the same Test, where he screamed in David Warner’s face and then brushed shoulders with Steven Smith.
He is the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing England series which leaves a massive void in South Africa’s bowling attack.
