Phil Salt secures thumping 10-wicket victory for Adelaide Strikers

Adelaide Strikers jumped back into third place on the Big Bash League points after inflicting a heavy 10-wicket loss on Brisbane Heat.

Following an all-round bowling performance from the Strikers that shot out the opposing team for just 100 on the board, the hosts benefitted from a breezy innings by Phil Salt to mow down the paltry target.

Salt pulverised the toothless Heat bowling attack by perfectly executing meaty blows from his bat.

Missing the services of James Pattinson, who snared a five-wicket haul in his last BBL outing, the Heat were exposed by their lack of bowling depth.

While the Welsh-born Salt was slightly sedate to start with the chase, he soon belted out luscious hits helping his team rush across the finishing line with ease.

Afghanistan off-spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman bore the brunt of Salt's onslaught as he leaked runs in excess of 12 an over.

The 23-year-old batsman capped off the Strikers' record-breaking win in style by launching Mujeeb for two successive sixes allowing his team to storm to victory with 55 balls to spare and all 10 wickets intact.

Before Salt and Jake Weatherald's feisty unbroken stand, all six bowling options of the Strikers chipped in with a valuable contribution to headline a flawless display.

Leg-spinner Liam O'Connor earned the player of the match accolade by registering career-best figures of 3-30 as his scalps boasted the dangerous pair of Chris Lynn and Ben Cutting.

The biggest blow to the Heat's progress in their stuttering innings was when star recruit AB de Villiers firmly pulled a Michael Neser delivery straight to the fielder.

His dismissal was followed by attempts of a recovery of sorts from Lynn and Matt Renshaw - the only two players to reach double figures.

However, the fall of skipper Lynn opened the floodgates as frequent incisions made it hard for his side to rebuild.

The humiliating defeat has caused Brisbane Heat's net run rate to take a massive hit, jeopardising the team's chances of qualifying for the latter stages of the tournament.
