Fast bowlers Mohammad Waseem and Tahir Hussain ran through Scotland U19 as Pakistan U19 started their WC campaign with a seven-wicket win at the North West University Oval, Potchefstroom.
The trio of Mohammad Waseem, Tahir Hussain and Abbas Afridi shared wickets among themselves as Scotland were removed for 75 in 23.5 overs.
The top three batters were removed by Tahir Hussain before Mohammad Wasim and Abbas Afridi decimated rest of the batting.
Uzzair Shah was the leading run-scorer in Scotland’s batting with 20 off 36 balls.
Wasim was the standout bowler in terms of figures as he recorded a five-wicket haul, returning with figures of 5 for 12 in 7.5 overs.
Tahir returned with figures of 3 for 23 while Abbas got 2 for 32 from his six overs. In reply, Pakistan chased down the target in 11.4 overs. Pakistan openers Haider Ali and Mohammad Shehzad
Their run-chase was off to a shaky start as openers Haider Ali (four) and Mohammad Shehzad (0) were trapped leg-before wicket.
However, skipper Rohail Nazir and Irfan Khan eased the little pressure with a 47-run stand.
Rohail scored 27 off 23 balls while Irfan returned unbeaten with 38 runs to his name. Pakistan will now face Zimbabwe U19 in their second group match on January 22.
