Japan suffer 10-wicket pounding from India on World Cup debut

Japan's ICC Under-19 World Cup debut proved to be a nightmare outing in the field as they crashed to the joint-second-lowest total in the tournament's history before India eased to the 42-run target inside five overs.

Ravi Bishnoi and Kartik Tyagi wreaked havoc on the fragile Japanese batting line-up, which could scramble together a paltry sum of 22 runs.

Japan were helped by 19 extras, 12 of which were wides due to the inability of India's new-ball bowlers to control the extravagant swing on offer.

India's decision to bowl first paid dividends instantly as Tyagi inflicted damage on the top-order by picking up two wickets in the fifth over.

His incisions were then followed by leg-spinner Bishnoi demolishing the rest of the Japan batting order in an extraordinary spell of bowling.

Bishnoi returned exceptional figures of 4/5 in eight overs and thus earned the player of the match award.

Akash Singh and Vidyadhar Patil shared three wickets between them to clean up the tail, bundling out Japan for 41 in 22.5 overs.

India rushed to the target without facing any obstacle with Yashasvi Jaiswal continuing his good form with an 18-ball 29 laced with five fours and a solitary six.

Kumar Kushagra chipped in with 13 runs allowing India to cement their No. 1 position in Group A.

The humiliating defeat has driven Japan's net run rate to an abysmal figure of -7.87, though they possess a single point owing to the washout against New Zealand.
