Melbourne Stars have drafted Dilbar Hussain into their squad as the replacement player for Haris Rauf ahead of Saturday's clash against Brisbane Heat.
Rauf was officially released by the Stars to take part in Pakistan's ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh in Lahore.
There is a possibility that Rauf, who exceeded expectations with a spate of sizzling performances in the Big Bash League, could return to the Stars' line-up for the tournament's finals.
In the interim, the Melbourne-based franchise has taken a punt on uncapped paceman Hussain.
Not much is known about the new overseas recruit except that like Rauf, he was also unearthed through the Lahore Qalandars' player development programme.
Hussain is talked up as another fast bowling prodigy hoping to make a seamless transition to hard-ball cricket, having taken up the sport professionally only recently.
He was part of the extended Qalandars squad in the Abu Dhabi T10 League but could not get a match in the competition.
The Stars have suffered an injury blow with Hilton Cartwright ruled out of the weekend's BBL fixture due to a fracture to his right hand.
He is currently awaiting confirmation regarding his availability for the latter stages of the tournament.
Glenn Maxwell will be returning in the captaincy position while Australia international Nathan Coulter-Nile has been called up by the Stars.
