Ravi Bopara, Safyaan Sharif picked in MCC squad to tour Pakistan

Ravi Bopara, Safyaan Sharif have been named in MCC’s 12-man squad which will tour Pakistan in February. The squad will be captained by Kumar Sangakkara and coached by former England quick Ajmal Shahzad.

MCC will be playing one 50-over match against Pakistan Shaheens while three other games will be T20 fixtures. One of the T20 fixtures will be played against the title holders of National T20 Cup, Northerns, while the other two games will be against Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans.

The squad consists of three players from Warwickshire Michael Burgess, Oliver Hannon-Dalby and Will Rhodes. Other players include the Scotland duo of Safyaan Sharif, Michael Leask as well as Netherlands’ Roelof van der Merwe and Fred Klaassen.

The strength of the squad will be bolstered by the trio of Phil Salt, Liam Dawson and Samit Patel – each of whom will play one match for the Club on the tour. The trio will then play in the Pakistan Super League which will be starting from February 20.

John Stephenson, MCC Assistant Secretary (Cricket) said: “We are thrilled to be able to name a strong squad for this tour, which blends youth and experience for a strong side of high quality.

“We have really appreciated the collaborative approach from the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Pakistan Super League, which has enabled us to arrange fixtures against sides preparing for this year’s PSL tournament as well as to secure the services of some of those participating.

“As a Club, we share the PCB’s wish in wanting to see international teams returning to play in Pakistan on a regular basis and we hope that this tour contributes to those objectives.”
