New Zealand have roped in Matt Henry as cover for Neil Wagner ahead of their first Test against India starting February 21.
Wagner, who is an integral part of New Zealand’s fast-bowling attack, is likely to miss the first Test as he awaits the birth of his child.
Henry wasn't named in the preliminary squad as the selectors instead went with Kyle Jamieson. Henry last played for New Zealand in the Sydney Test, which was won by Australia by a margin of 279 runs.
Wagner was initially lined to hit the training session ahead of the first Test but NZC later on confirmed his unavailability. The home side are however expected to hand a Test cap to Jamieson instead of drafting Henry into the playing XI.
