Andre Russell has made a comeback to the West Indies' T20I squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka after a prolonged period of absence from the national side.
The 31-year-old Russell played a major role in the Windies' World T20-winning campaign in 2016 but last featured in a 20-over game for the Caribbean side in August 2018.
Russell continues to ply his trade in several franchise-based competitions and is a sought out commodity in T20 leagues with an experience of 319 matches in the shortest format.
His inclusion boosts the team's batting and bowling depth as the reigning T20 world champions are preparing to defend their title in Australia later this year.
Shimron Hetmyer was mired in fitness issues ahead of the ODI series against Sri Lanka but he is now back in the squad for the T20I encounters.
Hard-hitting opener Evin Lewis also missed out on selection in the Sri Lanka ODIs and his fortunes have failed to get better as he remains absent from the T20I line-up.
"Shimron Hetmyer missed out on selection for the ODI squad," said chief selector Roger Harper.
"He has since attained the required fitness level, becoming available for selection and has been included.
"Andre Russell is back in the squad, having been cleared by the medical panel and successfully completing CWI's return-to-play protocol. Andre will add potency to every department of the team."
Right-arm quick Oshane Thomas has successfully recovered from a car accident, managing to earn a spot in the team.
The T20I series commences on March 4 at the Pallakele International Cricket Stadium.
