Qalandars fined for slow over-rate after losing a nail-biter to Islamabad

Lahore Qalandars' woes didn't end even after losing the nail-biter against Islamabad United. The entire team has copped a fine for slow over-rate during their one-wicket defeat against Islamabad United in the seventh match of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2020 at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.

Due to the fact that it was their first offence, the entire team members have been fined only ten per cent of their match fees as per Article 2.22 of the HBL PSL code of conduct for players and player support personnel, which carries details of the rules pertaining to minimum over-rate offences.

Qalandars were two overs short of their target from the allocated time after taking into account time allowances. If Qalandars are found guilty of another slow over-rate during the course of PSL V, then it will be considered as their second offence and each member of the playing eleven will be fined 20 per cent each of their match fees.

The charges were levelled by Ranmore Martinesz and Rashid Riaz (on-field umpires), Shozab Raza (third umpire), Nasir Hussain (fourth umpire), while match referee Mohammad Anees imposed the fines, based on the applicable sanctions for Minimum Over Rate offences.

It was Qalandars unsung hero Musa Khan who got Islamabad over the line in a cliffhanger. He held his nerve in the most crucial moments of the match. On the other hand, it was absolute heartbreak match for Qalandars fans as the home side came so near yet so far from their first victory in HBL PSL V.

Qalandars improved voluminously in last night's thrilling affair and the seasoned campaigner Mohammad Hafeez 98* run unbeaten blitzkrieg was a good omen for perennially struggling franchise.

There is a two-day break in the PSL as the tournament will move to Rawalpindi and Multan from February 26 onwards. Qalandars next fixture is against Peshawar Zalmi on February 28 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
