Faf du Plessis has been rested from the squad which will face Australia in a three-match ODI series, it was announced by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
Du Plessis, who had earlier stepped down from the captaincy, is being rested alongside Rassie van der Dussen and Dwaine Pretorius.
The first match in the series will be in Paarl on February 29, after the conclusion of the three-match T20I series.
Test regular Keshav Maharaj has earned a call-up after impressing in a domestic one-day cup. He last played an ODI against Sri Lanka in 2018.
"We always saw the series against England and Australia as an opportunity to play some fresh talent," said Boucher on the selection.
"If we feel that we need to rest players, we will, as we have done in the recent past. Faf (du Plessis) has been fantastic for us in white-ball cricket and remains very much in our ODI plans and we will manage his workload for the near future diligently."
The squad consists of batsman Janneman Malan and wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne, who named in the squad for the England series but didn’t get a game. Malan has played two T20Is for South Africa while previously been capped at T20 level while Verreynne is yet to receive an international cap.
"I would like to strengthen our depth pool right now and see what players we have out there. I feel that this is the time and opportunity to do so," said Boucher.
