Injury Blow For Pakistan

Bismah Maroof ruled out of T20 World Cup due to fractured thumb

Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof has been rendered unavailable for the rest of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup after sustaining a communitive fracture in her right thumb.

Bismah copped a blow to her thumb off Katherine Brunt's bowling which eventually resulted in her dismissal as Pakistan crashed to a 42-run defeat against England in Canberra on Friday.

The vastly experienced batter will accompany her team's visit to Sydney on Saturday, where she will be operated upon by Cricket Australia's orthopedic surgeon.

Pakistan opener Javeria Khan has been appointed skipper of the side in Bismah's absence.

Meanwhile, the PCB has announced 53-T20I veteran Nahida Khan as Bismah's replacement in the squad, which will be finalized following the Event Technical Committee's approval.

Bismah played a pivotal role in Pakistan's eight-wicket win over West Indies in their first match of the tournament, conjuring an unbeaten 38 in the successful chase of the 125-run target.

She failed in the subsequent encounter against England, managing just four runs and later contracted the injury in the fateful game.

Pakistan's next match is scheduled to take place on Sunday against South Africa with their final group stage clash against Thailand planned on March 3.
