Bowlers, Knight power England women to 42-run win over Pakistan

England women edged Pakistan women by 42 runs in a Group match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

With 159 required to win, Pakistan were skittled out for 116. Pakistan will now face South Africa in a group game in Sunday.

Pakistan’s chase was off to poor start as they continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Muneeba Ali was dismissed in the third over, Bismah Maroof was dismissed just when the powerplay was about to end. Javeria Khan was knocked over by Sarah Glenn, leaving Pakistan reeling at 39 for 3.

Pakistan kept losing regular wickets before getting bowled out for 116. Aliya Riaz was the only batter to provide resistance, top-scoring with 41 off 33 balls.

Anya Shrubsole and Sarah Glenn shared three wickets each. Katherine Brunt and Sophie Ecclestone grabbed two wickets each.

Earlier, Diana Baig continued to repeat her heroics of dismissing batters in the first over of the game. She did that against West Indies and today dismissed England opener Amy Jones (2) on the fifth ball of the match.

Heather Knight was the standout batter from the English side, top-scoring with 62 off 47 balls. She struck eight fours and one six during her stay at the crease. Natalie Sciver also impressed with her 36 off 29 balls, hammering five boundaries.

Aimen Anwar was the pick of the bowlers for three for 30 in four overs.
