Luke Ronchi, Colin Munro and bowlers combined to outclass Lahore Qalandars in the 17th match of Pakistan Super League 2020.
Batting first, Islamabad United posted a mammoth 198 for the loss of three wickets, with solid contributions from Luke Ronchi (48 off 31) and Colin Munro (87 off 59).
In reply, Lahore Qalandars were bundled out for 127 with standout contributions from Zafar Gohar and Rumman Raees.
Chris Lynn, opening the batting for his side, fell on the second delivery of the innings when he top-edged Dale Steyn to mid-on. Mohammad Hafeez, who came in to bat at No 3 spot, struggled to get going and was caught at mid-wicket, trying to pull Akif Javed.
The likes of Salman Butt, Ben Dunk and Samit Patel didn’t survive around for long as the asking rate continued to soar up. Spinners Shadab Khan and Zafar Gohar stymied the run-flow in middle overs and shared five wickets between themselves. Rumman Raees then ran through the lower order with three wickets.
Earlier, Islamabad put on 198 for the loss of three wickets with openers Ronchi and Munro being the chief tormentors. Ronchi was dismissed off Hafeez’s off-break but Colin Ingram (29 off 19) and Asif Ali (20 off 6) chipped in towards the end overs to give Islamabad a very competitive total.
