Naseem Shah has been advised five-day rest by the medical panel after he sprained his ankle during the HBL PSL clash between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi on Thursday.
Naseem could deliver only two overs as Quetta crashed to a 30-run defeat in the Rawalpindi fixture. The tearaway speedster walked off the field following the injury niggle leaving Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed to opt for the sixth bowling option to complete his quota of overs.
Naseem has picked up three wickets across five games for the Gladiators thus far in the competition. He missed the first two games owing to a rib injury he sustained in the Rawalpindi Test against Bangladesh.
Leg-spinner Zahid Mehmood has been roped in as the youngster's replacement following the approval by the event's technical committee comprising of PCB CEO Wasim Khan, Bazid Khan, Marina Iqbal, Sameer Khosa and Dr. Sohail Saleem.
Zahid was one of the leading performers in the National T20 Cup last year, scalping nine wickets at an average of 13 and a miserly economy rate of 6.00.
