Janneman Malan has been added to South Africa's squad for the three-match ODI series in India, Cricket South Africa announced on Saturday.
Malan's solid performances in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia at home has prompted the selectors to increase the number of members in the touring party from 15 to 16.
The 23-year-old opener was initially not included in the line-up named by CSA for the tour of India slated to begin on March 12 in Dharamshala.
He struck a magnificent ton in just the second game of his ODI career – a marked improvement from his first-ball duck in the previous outing against the travelling Australian team.
Malan's unbeaten 129 helped the Proteas cruise to victory in Bloemfontein on Wednesday, securing South Africa's first series win across any format since March 2019.
The youngster made his international debut last year in February but had to wait 12 months to stage a comeback to the national side – this time in the 50-over set-up.
Malan made 23 in the third match against Australia. It remains to be seen whether the team management will take a punt with the inexperienced Malan as the opener in India or persist with Temba Bavuma to partner skipper Quinton de Kock in the top-order.
Quinton de Kock (c & wk), Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, Faf du Plessis, Kyle Verreynne, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Jon-Jon Smuts, Andile Phehlukwayo, Lungi Ngidi, Lutho Sipamla, Beuran Hendricks, Anrich Nortje, George Linde, Keshav Maharaj, Janneman Malan
