Ali Shafiq defended 15 off the last over as Multan Sultans registered a narrow three-run victory over Peshawar Zalmi.
Shafiq bowled two successive no-balls in the last over but that couldn’t prevent the Sultans in registering their sixth victory of this tournament.
Chasing 155, Peshawar lost Kamran Akmal right at the start before Wahab Riaz promoted himself at No 3. He was removed by Sohail Tanveer, combined with Moeen Ali to take a stunning grab at first slip.
Imam-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik then took the game forward from that point as the former completed his half-century. The pressure of dots continued to build on as Peshawar then started losing wickets quickly.
With 15 required off the last over, Ali Shafiq bowled a wide and two no-balls, one of them heading way down the leg-side for a boundary. However, he kept his nerve till the last ball as Multan Sultans edged out their opponents by three runs.
Earlier, Zeeshan Ashraf, batting at the top of the order scored a half-century to take charge of Multan’s innings. Shan Masood hung around with a 23-ball 28 before Khushdil Shah at the lower order scored 30 off 20 balls.
Zeeshan Ashraf was declared player of the match for his batting performance.
