Watson, Manzoor star as Quetta edge Karachi in final group game

Shane Watson and Khurram Manzoor slammed half-centuries as Quetta Gladiators edged Karachi Kings in the last group stage game of the PSL 2020.

Quetta needed to chase down 151 in 3.2 overs to make it into the top-four, which was an improbable task. Ahmed Shehzad was the first one to depart in the run-chase, flashing at a wide line from Waqas Maqsood, edged through to the keeper.

Manzoor, batting in his first game of this year’s PSL, showed no remorse and went after Karachi’s relatively inexperienced bowling. Watson, on the other end, was destructive as well as the duo shared a 118-run partnership to take the sting out of the run chase.

The pair used the crease superbly and used sweep shot to a great effect to nullify any sort of turn in NSK. Both batters fell after scoring half-centuries. Arshad Iqbal then took two wickets in consecutive balls to give a wee bit of hope but the damage had already been done with Nawaz and Azam taking their side home by five wickets.

Earlier, Karachi Kings lost two wickets of Sharjeel Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed upfront before Babar Azam and Cameron Delport provided some stability on a slightly slower track.

Delports 62 off 44 turned out to be a crucial innings for the home side before Chadwick Walton chipped in with 26 off 20 balls.

Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans will go head to head in the first semi-final before Lahore and Karachi face off in the second match on March 17 (Tuesday). The final will be played on March 18 (Wednesday).
