Umar Akmal submits response to PCB's charge sheet against him

Umar Akmal has given his response to the Pakistan Cricket Board's notice of charge issued against him on March 17 for two violations of the anti-corruption code.

The PCB confirmed receiving Umar's response on Tuesday and refused to make further comments on the developing matter.

"The PCB will now review and examine Umar Akmal’s response and provide further details on the next steps in due course," the board announced in its media release.

The often-controversial Umar Akmal was charged with two breaches of Article 2.4.4 of the PCB anti-corruption code in two separate incidents.

He was provisionally suspended right before the commencement of the Pakistan Super League on February 20, ruling him out of the competition.

The charges against the middle-order batsman concern his failure to report corrupt approaches immediately to the relevant authorities.

The 29-year-old, who has had a chequered career since his arrival on the international scene in 2009, is likely to face a punishment ranging from a period of ineligibility of six months to a lifetime ban in accordance with the gravity of his offence.
