Afghanistan begin month-long training camp under health guidelines

Afghanistan's national players have begun training in the month-long camp arranged by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) at the Kabul Cricket Stadium.

A total of 22 players will be taking part in the camp that will be "focused on strengthening their batting, bowling and overall performance as part of their preparations for upcoming competitions", according to the ACB release.

The group of players includes national skipper Asghar Afghan, star leg-spinner Rashid Khan, veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi and out-of-favour wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad.

"This camp will be held under the relevant health guidelines and in close coordination with the ICC, WHO and the ministry of public health of Afghanistan to avoid the spread of COVID-19," assured the ACB.

The number of virus infections in the country currently stands at 20,342 while the death toll due to the disease reads an ominous figure of 357.

Ahead of the commencement of the training programme, the players were briefed on COVID-19 awareness alongside other relevant officials as they were educated about the precautionary measures.

The players and members of the support staff were thus observed to be practicing while wearing a mask and following social distancing rules on the first day of the camp.
