Shannon Gabriel officially added to West Indies Test squad

West Indies have finally decided to induct Shannon Gabriel into the 15-man squad for the forthcoming Test series against England.

Gabriel was originally part of the reserves but has now been drafted into the main squad following an impressive show across the two intra-squad warm-up games ahead of the first Test.

The powerfully-built Gabriel had entered the England tour following an extended absence from the competitive arena owing to an ankle injury.

He had not played a first-class game since his stint with Gloucestershire in last year's County Championship. As a result, doubts lingered over his ability to regain full fitness for the gruelling requirements of Test cricket.

The 32-year-old now returns as one of the most experienced members of the squad with 133 Test wickets after accounting for eight scalps across three innings in the practice matches.

“I am delighted that we are able to add Shannon to the Test squad. He has shown that he is fit and ready, he will add experience, firepower and potency to the bowling unit," said CWI chief selector Roger Harper.

Gabriel's inclusion beefs up West Indies' pace bowling department, though skipper Jason Holder's fitness remains a concern for the team management as the lanky fast bowler did not deliver many overs.

The opening Test of the three-match series will be staged at the Ageas Bowl starting Wednesday.

Revised Test Squad: Jason Holder (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Kraigg Brathwaite, Shamarh Brooks, John Campbell, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Shane Dowrich, Shannon Gabriel, Chemar Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Raymon Reifer, Kemar Roach
