Team Green put on improved batting display after Naseem Shah shines again

Team Green made amends to their first-innings failure to lead a fightback on day three of Pakistan's final intra-squad warm-up game in Derby.

Shan Masood, Abid Ali and skipper Azhar Ali all got starts but none of them kicked on to amass a big score and seize control of the proceedings.

Team Green finished the day at 133-3 with a slender lead of 48 runs following a pace bowling masterclass from Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi.

The young pace duo was instrumental in making inroads that helped their side prevent Team White from gaining a match-defining lead.

In reply to the first-innings total of 113, the Sarfaraz Ahmed-captained team were rocked by a regular loss of wickets, which stifled their momentum.

Fawad Alam and Sarfaraz enjoyed a 61-run stand that allowed them to surpass the opposition's paltry total but the wicketkeeper-batsman fell to Shaheen for 26.

In contrast to day two where only seven overs of play were possible, Pakistan's frontline pace attack comprising Shaheen, Naseem and Mohammad Abbas bowled long spells to torment Team White.

Naseem was the pick of the bowlers for his side as he scythed through the lower-order and returned figures of four for 52. In the previous practice game, Naseem had taken a five-wicket haul as his good form bodes well for Pakistan heading into the first Test against England on August 5.

For Team White, opener Imam-ul-Haq came out to bat after Sarfaraz's dismissal and stayed out in the middle till the end of the innings following an injury scare on the opening day.

Fawad top-scored with 43 while Imam remained unbeaten on 41.

On the other hand, Shan fell one run shy of his half-century as Imran Khan darted in a terrific delivery that sent his stumps cartwheeling.

Team Green still have star batter Babar Azam on the crease and they would be banking their hopes on his brilliance to expand their lead to set a sizeable target for Sarfaraz's men.
