South African speedster Anrich Nortje has been roped in as a replacement for England's Chris Woakes in the Delhi Capitals squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
Nortje will now be linking up with fellow Proteas paceman Kagiso Rabada in the Capitals squad for the 13th edition of the league that has been shifted to the UAE.
Although Nortje has played only a solitary match – the three-team format exhibition game in South Africa – amidst the virus outbreak since March, he is raring to go hard in the IPL, which commences on September 19.
"I am excited to join the Delhi Capitals, a team that was the talk of the tournament last season," Nortje said of the franchise.
The Capitals, coached by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, are still in search of their maiden IPL title and would be bolstered by the inclusion of Nortje.
"With its exciting mix of experienced and young players, and a stellar coaching line-up, there is no doubt this is going to be a massive learning experience for me," the 26-year-old added.
Nortje has earned a reputation of being an express fast bowler with a penchant for delivering brutal short-pitched stuff on a regular basis.
He was declared Cricket South Africa's newcomer of the year for 2020 after a successful run in his six Test appearances so far.
He was set to make his IPL debut in the 2019 season with Kolkata Knight Riders but suffered a shoulder injury that prevented him from getting a game.
