Chennai Super Kings have been dealt with another blow to their preparations for the upcoming IPL season after Harbhajan Singh revealed his decision to pull out of the tournament citing "personal reasons".
The veteran off-spinner is the second CSK player to not feature in this year's IPL as middle-order batsman Suresh Raina also took leave quoting similar reasons.
Harbhajan, who was part of the title-winning CSK squad in 2018, had not yet travelled to the UAE, which will be hosting the repeatedly delayed tournament because of escalating coronavirus situation in India.
He was additionally not present during the six-day conditioning camp held in Chennai last month that included MS Dhoni, Raina and bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji among others.
"Dear Friends. I will not be playing IPL this year due to personal reasons. These are difficult times and I would expect some privacy as I spend time with my family. @ChennaiIPL CSK management has been extremely supportive and I wish them a great IPL. Stay safe and Jai Hind," Harbhajan wrote on Twitter.

The Super Kings outfit has been embroiled in Covid-19 issues since their arrival in Dubai as several members of the support staff and two players tested positive for the virus. This development led to the extension in their quarantine period despite all other franchises engaged in practice sessions ahead of the start of the competition on September 19.
